Most of Colorado is under a winter storm warning. As a winter sports enthusiast, this news excites me! Colorado’s front range is predicted to receive up to 14″ and West of the divide they are predicting up to 2 feet! So, what are you going to do this weekend? Here are a few activities on my mind… First, my all time favorite is skiing. By the weekend the roads are sure to be cleaned up but the slopes will have a fresh foot or two of snow! My family and I usually ski in Winter Park, recently rated in the top 5 for family friendly ski resorts by Ski Magazine. Other outdoor activities in the Winter Park/Grand County area include tubing, snow shoeing, ice skating, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. If you choose to skip the traffic and stay on the front range, you still have many options as the snow will be plenty! My favorite front range ice skating rinks are Evergreen Lake, Louisville and of course downtown Denver at Skyline Park. If downhill speed is what you are looking for, try one of these sledding hills! Here’s to no school tomorrow! Stay warm and safe.

After the initial planning of this area was stalled in 2008 because of the market crash, the 9th and Colorado Redevelopment Project is ramping up. This project will span 26 acres and is just 3 miles Southeast of Downtown Denver. Prior to 2008, the land housed the University of Colorado Health and Science Center which is now located on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The project will be a combination of residential units, office space, restaurant, retail and even a hotel. The location of this area makes the sorounding radius a hot spot for investment. Not only will it be it’s own destination spot, the 9th and Colorado location is walking distance to Trader Joes, Snooze, Cherry Creek North and all the retail and restaurants in Congress Park. Here you can view the 9th and Colorado Redevelopment Project Map. As of February this year, demolition should have been completed with over 1.2 Million square feet of buildings demolished. They were able to recycle 30,000+tons of material! They will begin with the renovation of the parking garage and will then work on laying the infrastructure. The Development Office is supposed to open this month and the next community meeting is planned for April. To be added to the email update list, email email@example.com. This area realized about 14% appreciation from October of 2014 through October 2015 and there are no signs of slowing. For a complete list of homes for sale in this area click here.
Have you ever been downtown for the annual St Patricks Day Parade? The first St Patricks Day parade in Denver took place in 1889. The parade followed the same route for many years and was coupled by a Ball. This event became one of the largest social events in Denver through the 1920’s. However, it wasn’t until the early 1960’s that it re-emerged into an official parade. Since then, it has grown to be one of the largest parades in the nation. With over 200,000 people lining the streets of Denver, this is fun for the whole family. The parade is not organized and put on by the city and county of Denver. The parade is organized by Denver St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, Inc. This year the parade will be Saturday, March 12th at 9:30am. View the parade route here. People have been known to show up and claim a good spot to watch by as early as 5am. If you do get a good spot, you may be able to catch some candy, beads or maybe even a lucky charm! For information on parking availability click here In the past, my family has been lucky to find street parking. However, we were willing to walk many blocks so wear comfy shoes if that is your plan! It would also be a good idea to dress in layers and check the weather before heading out. We usually take a back pack with plenty of water and snacks because it does last a long time and you don’t want to be in a hurry to get anywhere as it is quite crowded. You can also decide to carry on with the festivities after the parade at one of the many bars/restaurants downtown. One of the biggest festivities on this day is at Fado’s Irish Pub but don’t forget about Nallen’s, The Celtic Tavern, The Abbey Tavern or the Irish Rover! See you there!
Instead of skiing this Sunday, my family and I decided to take advantage of the gorgeous Colorado weather and take a hike. Eldorado Springs CO is a short drive from Broomfield CO and is known for it’s bottled water business. The state park entrance is located at the end of this quaint town, population about 585 people. On this particular day we actually had to wait for a car full of people to leave so we could enter the state park. I have never seen it this busy before but it was still enjoyable to hike and picnic. We parked at the end of the park near the visitors center. Here they have a little gift shop, bathrooms and park rangers (during select hours) to answer your questions. A few picnic tables and charcoal grills are built in along side the creek if you care to bring a lunch. The Canyon offers many different hiking trails to choose from and is also famous for rock climbing. We hiked the Eldorado Canyon Trail and we also crossed a bridge (toward the begining of the park) and hiked along the Boulder Creek. We posed for pictures in the cool rock formations, near the waterfall and on the bridge. The kids loved it! In the summertime we plan to visit Eldorado Springs again. My family and I are going to hike in the morning then go chill out at the pool. The Eldorado Swimming Pool opened in 1905 and is fed directly from the artesian spring at a temperature of 76 degrees F. It feels like you are walking back in time when you enter the pool. There is a diving board and a big red slide you cannot miss!
